Design Business // E-decorator Ethos Design

Over the last week we have been looking at the concept of e-decorating to see how this part of the design industry can work for you. Our final interview is with Anna from Ethos Design.

GL // Why did you start your business, and what is the vision behind Ethos Design?

ED // When I considered starting a business I realised there were many people I knew that were choosing not to ask an interior designer for help because they assumed they couldn’t afford it, or were too uncomfortable asking for a quote. I wanted to create a service where everyone could see clearly how much the service cost, and what it included. I also wanted the services to be affordable for ‘real people’, and use everyday stores and creative solutions so people could work within their budget.

The result was our ‘Ethos Design Kits’; an online design plan which is a flat fee and contains all the information you need to create a dream room. The fantastic thing about working online is that not only are the services more affordable than a traditional designer, but I can work with people from all over Australia; from large cities to small country towns.

GL // What services do you provide and what are the general costs associated?

ED // Ethos Design provides decorating services online through our ‘Design Kits’. These range in price from $149 to $349 depending on how much help you need. I also offer services for people building new homes, including designing electrical plans, providing suggestions for lighting or kitchen design, or choosing paint colours. Building services start from $199.

GL // What are the most popular requests you receive?

ED // Out of my decorating services people love the ‘Re-Fresh’ kits. They use your existing furniture and suggest accessories, artwork, window treatments and floor coverings to give you a beautifully finished room. These are great because it gives you a fresh look for minimal cost, and I can work with any budget you choose. Another very popular kit is the ‘Lighting & Electrical'. A lot of people are really stumped by lighting plans so this kit provides a detailed lighting concept (right down to the power points) and suggests amazing feature lighting that will suit your style.

Anna put together this very stylish mood board using product suggestions from the Gallop Lifestyle online homewares store.
